About Me

The Magnolia Story

Magnolia, that's me! My given name is actually Maggi. When I was a baby my wonderful and wise Gran baptized me "Magnolia Blossom" in her kitchen sink. She didn't take too kindly to the fact that my heathen parents skipped over my christening, endangering my mortal soul. So moving forward from the day of my re-birth, Magnolia became my nickname. Ta-da!

I was born in West Des Moines, Iowa and raised in Miami, Florida. I now reside on the Iowa side of The Quad Cities, but have lived in Colorado, Wyoming, North Carolina, Maryland and Texas. Iowa is my favorite of all the places I've lived. Yes, I said Iowa is my favorite. Why are you staring?

I strive to be a wallflower and lead the most vanilla life possible. So far, that hasn't worked out well for me. Nope. Not even a little bit. I am the mother of two extraordinary sons, and the wife of a remarkable man. I am a Special Needs Mama. Both of my monkeys have autism, my youngest suffers from Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. Life in The House of Myers is one big adventure in pursuit of the silver linings.

My life is deeply complicated, and yet, full of magic and beauty. I like to write characters who've suffered well, lived on despite it, and find beauty beyond the obstacles we all face.
I self published The Final Piece on November 2, 2012. I was shocked, humbled and absolutely ecstatic to hit Amazon's Top 100. The beginning of 2013 brought more wonderment. I signed with Gelfman & Schneider Literary Agency, who then brokered a two book deal with Lake Union Publishing (APub). On August 15, 2013, The Final Piece was re-released as a trade published novel. Lily Love, was released on June 6, 2014. Currently, I'm writing my third novel. Not bad for little ole me.
